Terms of Use

1. Acceptance of these Terms

These Terms of Use ("Terms") form a binding agreement between you and the operator of Storyforge (the "Service"), available at story.moja-app.com ("we", "us", "our"). By accessing or using the Service — including browsing stories as a guest, creating an account, or reading any content — you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

We may update these Terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date above shows the latest revision. Material changes will be made reasonably available through the Service; your continued use after changes take effect means you accept the revised Terms.

2. The Service

Storyforge provides branching, interactive fiction. Stories are organized as chapters; at the end of a chapter you may choose between options to reveal the next chapter. Story text, summaries, cover images, and illustrations are generated by artificial intelligence (see Section 7).

We may add, change, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time, with or without notice. We are not liable to you or any third party for any modification, suspension, or discontinuation of the Service or any feature.

3. Eligibility, age, and parental consent

You must be at least 13 years old to create your own account. If you are under the age of majority in your place of residence, you may use the Service only with the involvement and consent of a parent or legal guardian, who agrees to be bound by these Terms on your behalf and is responsible for your use of the Service.

Some stories are rated for mature (18+) audiences. Access to mature content is age-gated: signed-in users are filtered according to the date of birth on their account, and guests must affirmatively confirm they are adults before such content is shown. You agree not to misrepresent your age or that of any child for whom you are responsible, and not to circumvent any age gate, filter, or access control.

By using the Service you represent that the information you provide (including any date of birth) is accurate, and that your use of the Service does not violate any law or regulation that applies to you.

4. Accounts and security

You may create an account directly or through a supported third-party login (such as Google, Facebook, or GitHub). You are responsible for keeping your credentials and access tokens confidential and for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us promptly at support@moja-app.com if you suspect any unauthorized use.

You agree to provide accurate account information and to keep it up to date. We may suspend, restrict, or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, that are used unlawfully, or where required to protect the Service or other users.

5. Choice tokens and virtual items

The Service may use "tokens" or similar virtual items to enable certain actions, such as advancing through a story by selecting a choice. Tokens and other virtual items are a limited, personal, non-transferable license to use a feature of the Service. They have no monetary value, are not your property, cannot be redeemed for cash, and are non-refundable except where required by law.

We may grant, adjust, expire, or revoke tokens and may change how they work at any time. Any paid features, if and when offered, will be subject to additional terms presented at the time of purchase.

6. Your licence to use the Service

Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable, revocable licence to access and read the content made available to you through the Service, solely for your own personal, non-commercial entertainment.

This licence does not transfer any ownership to you and grants no rights other than those expressly stated. All rights not expressly granted are reserved.

7. AI-generated content — disclaimer and no liability

You acknowledge and agree that stories, summaries, choices, cover images, and illustrations on the Service are generated by artificial intelligence systems, in whole or in part, and are works of fiction. They are produced automatically and are not reviewed for accuracy, suitability, or completeness before they are shown.

Because the content is machine-generated, it may be inaccurate, misleading, inconsistent, offensive, inappropriate, or otherwise objectionable, and it may unintentionally resemble real people, places, events, or existing works. Any resemblance to real persons, living or dead, or to actual events, is coincidental and unintended.

AI-generated content is provided for entertainment only. It is not, and must not be relied upon as, professional advice of any kind (including legal, medical, financial, psychological, or safety advice). You are solely responsible for any decision or action you take based on content from the Service.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we accept no responsibility or liability for AI-generated content or for any consequences arising from it. The content is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind. If you find content that concerns you, please report it to support@moja-app.com.

8. Intellectual property and ownership of the story data

The Service and all materials made available through it — including all stories, chapters, text, summaries, choices, characters, titles, cover images, illustrations, the catalog and its structure, compilations, metadata, software, design, and branding (together, the "Story Data" and "Service Materials") — are owned by Storyforge or its licensors and are protected by copyright, database, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. As between you and us, we own all rights in the Story Data and Service Materials.

We claim and reserve all rights in the selection, arrangement, and compilation of the Story Data as a protected database, in addition to any rights in the individual items of content.

9. Restrictions — no copying or reuse of the Story Data

The licence in Section 6 lets you read content within the Service. Except as expressly permitted by these Terms or by mandatory applicable law, and except for ordinary in-product reading and the temporary local caching your browser performs automatically, you must NOT, and must not permit or enable anyone else to:

• copy, reproduce, download, archive, store, screenshot in bulk, or otherwise extract the Story Data or any substantial part of it, whether by manual or automated means;
• scrape, crawl, harvest, index, mirror, or use any bot, spider, script, or other automated process to access or collect the Story Data or any part of the Service;
• republish, distribute, transmit, display, perform, sell, rent, sub-license, or otherwise make the Story Data available to any third party, in any medium;
• create derivative works from, adapt, translate, or build any product, dataset, or service based on the Story Data;
• use the Story Data (or any text, images, or metadata from the Service) to train, fine-tune, evaluate, or develop any machine-learning model, large language model, dataset, or other artificial-intelligence system;
• remove, obscure, or alter any copyright, trademark, or other proprietary notice; or
• use the Story Data for any commercial purpose.

These restrictions are a material part of this agreement. Any use of the Story Data outside the limited reading licence is unauthorized and may infringe our intellectual property and database rights and other rights, and may be pursued to the fullest extent permitted by law.

10. Acceptable use

You agree not to misuse the Service. In addition to the restrictions in Section 9, you must not:

• use the Service in violation of any applicable law or regulation;
• attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service, other accounts, or our systems or networks, or probe, scan, or test their vulnerability;
• interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Service, including by imposing an unreasonable load on our infrastructure;
• reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the Service except to the extent that restriction is prohibited by law;
• circumvent, disable, or interfere with any security, age-gating, rate-limiting, or access-control feature; or
• use the Service to develop a competing product or service.

11. Third-party services

The Service relies on third parties, such as identity providers used for sign-in (for example Google, Facebook, and GitHub), hosting providers, and the artificial-intelligence providers that generate content. Your use of a third-party service is governed by that party's own terms and privacy practices. We are not responsible for third-party services and do not endorse them.

12. Disclaimer of warranties

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Service and all content (including AI-generated content) are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, accuracy, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, error-free, or that content will be accurate, reliable, or suitable.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so some of the above may not apply to you. In that case, such warranties are limited to the minimum extent permitted by law.

13. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Storyforge and its owners, directors, employees, agents, and licensors will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, goodwill, or other intangible losses, arising out of or relating to your use of (or inability to use) the Service or any content, whether based in contract, tort, negligence, strict liability, or any other theory, even if advised of the possibility of such damages.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total aggregate liability for all claims relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us, if any, for the Service in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim, or USD 100.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law.

14. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Storyforge and its owners, directors, employees, agents, and licensors from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to your use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, your violation of any law, or your infringement of any third-party right, including any unauthorized use or copying of the Story Data.

15. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without notice, if you violate these Terms or if we reasonably consider it necessary to protect the Service or others. You may stop using the Service at any time. Sections that by their nature should survive termination — including those on intellectual property, restrictions, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnification, and governing law — will survive.

16. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the country in which the operator of the Service is established, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Nothing in this section deprives you of the protection of the mandatory consumer-protection laws of your country of residence, or of your right to bring proceedings before the competent courts there.

Before starting any formal proceedings, you agree to first contact us at support@moja-app.com so we can try, in good faith, to resolve the dispute informally.

17. General

These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Service. If any provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in full force. Our failure to enforce any right is not a waiver. You may not assign these Terms without our consent; we may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
